In Loving Memory

JoAnn Cook Parrish

7/28/1942 - 6/3/2013

JoAnn Cook Parrish, 71, of Hillcrest Village, TX passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013.  She was born on July 28, 1941 in Anguilla, MS.  She was the daughter of Charles Cook and Denver and Helen Hall, and adopted daughter of Helen Wood, by love, of Sugarland, TX.  She grew up in Natchez, and moved to Texas with her husband Don, in 1964.  They eventually moved to Alvin, TX where she pursued her Master's in Education from the University of Houston.

She was a beloved teacher and principal for 30 years.  She felt her greatest accomplishment, other than her two boys, was spearheading the building of Hood-Case Elementary. The school achieved an exemplary rating for 2000-2002, and in 2000 and 2003, Hood-Case received the TBEC, Texas Business Education Coalition, Just for Kids Outstanding School Award.  She was an avid reader and loved having a full house of friends and family for every special occasion, especially Christmas.

JoAnn loved the Lord and is confident in her Lord's saving grace.  She was a proud member of South Park Baptist Church, Aglaian Study Club, Alvin Mother's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was a devoted wife to Don, mother to Ronnie, Mark and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and grandmother to Ben and Jackson.

JoAnn's words to Don:  I want to say thank you for the many years of happiness and the support you gave to me and my career as an educator.  I could not have done it without you.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. at the South Park Baptist Church, 1718 S. Johnson St., Alvin, TX  77511 with Rev. Dr. Howard Daniel officiating.  Interment will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at East Sandy Cemetery in New Waverly, TX.

What a wonderful dedicated and dear person JoAnn was. She will be remembered for all the thoughtful things she did for all the people she knew. We had a lot of fun when I taught with her at Longfellow. ..and over the many years.
